During the reign of Gaur Sultan, the southern region of Chandradwip was ruled by two Pathansardars. One of them was named Reza Khan, Reza Khan was the head of the region. In 1920, Reza Khan set up his head office in the area. The place was named after him as Raizapur. Later Royjapur took the name Rajapur. In 1938, a police station was established at Rajapur. Rajapur Thana started its administrative activities in 1983 as an upgraded thana and in 1985 an upazila was formed.
